Multi-Library
ViStor provides the ability to partition the VTL disk space into several VTL libraries, which appear as individual physical tape libraries to different backup applications.
For instance, if your Windows clients are using Networker from EMC, your Linux clients are using NetVault from BakBone, and your UNIX Oracle servers are using Symantec NetBackup, you have some issues when it comes to centralizing backups. ViStor can help speed up and centralize your backups for a more organized disaster recovery strategy.
Simply create an individual VTL library for each backup product as a first stage backup to disk. When backups have completed, use the most optimal backup product (typically the one with the fastest tape and largest tape library capacity) to then backup the VTL staged disk backups onto tape.
User restore requests are overwhelmingly consistent in that they typically ask for data from the past few backups. By keeping the most recent full, and the most recent incremental backups on ViStor, you can lower the overall Restore Time Objectives for all backup groups, keep users happy, and organize your offline tape resources efficiently and economically.
