Application Support
The challenge to ensuring application data protection is to provide it without impairing application performance. Additionally, avoiding strategies that create another set of challenges for the application to manage.
AIMstor's ability to provide real time backup with de-duplication enables it to provide Recovery Point Objectives with viable long term retention for key applications such as: Microsoft SQL, MS Exchange, Oracle, Microsoft Sharepoint
Additionally, AIMstor provides Live Consistency for MS SQL Server and MS Exchange Server, with 1-Minute RPO's and full consistency 7/24. .
Some key points for considering AIMstor for application protection:
- I need more granularity
with my recovery points - AIMstor allows you to fully control your recovery point objects from minutes to days.
- Standard backups create
huge overhead on the server - AIMstor will capture data when it changes thereby avoiding the bulk data transfers of traditional backups which impact Disk, CPU and Network.
- More frequent backups just
creates duplicate data - AIMstor only transmits and stores the differences thereby avoiding the unnecessarily duplicating data.
- I need my application backups
to be part of DR strategy - AIMstor allows the application backups to be part of an overall Disaster Recovery strategy allowing you to fully restore an OS and application in one operation.
- I need more granularity
General Capabilities
- Feature
- Benefit
- Real time Data Reduction
- By capturing the data real time, AIMstor only stores the differences since the last backup. This reduces the amount of data stores and the impact of creating backups.
- Batch Backup Data Reduction
- If AIMstor is employed to work in batch mode, AIMstor will only send the changed blocks since the last backup. By reducing the amount of data stored , this data de-duplication method facilitates keeping data for longer period of time.
- Complete recovery in one restore
- AIMstor recovery enables you to restore the application data, the application and the operating system in one pass even if the OS and application data are in different save sets. This simplifies the recovery procedure and significantly reduces the recovery time.
- Increased Recovery Point Objective
- AIMstor allows you to mix the granularity of CDP with the long term retention of a backup.
- Reduced overhead
- Working in real time mode, creating a recovery point has no impact on the application.
Application-Consistent Capabilities
- Feature
- Benefit
- Real time SQL & Exchange Protection
- Real-Time backups that are synchronized with the applications ensuring full application consistency
- Application-Consistent CDP Recovery Points
- CDP backups with an "up-to-the-second" image, allowing flexible retention spanning days.
- SQL & Exchange Standby for Failover
- Real time replication of SQL or Exchange server or VM provides immediate secondary image suitable for application failover.
- Touch-Once Technology
- Enabling real-time Backup, CDP and Replication to be used together without any additional CPU or network overhead on the source system.
- Reduced overhead
- Working in real time mode, creating a recovery point has no impact on the application.
Combining Functions and Data Flow
By Implementing a simple policy that combines Backup with Replication for SQL, the image below the AIMstor User Interface with a data-flow that unifies the data flow into a single-data movement from the SQL primary system, with Backups and/or CDP going to the Repository, for easy restore to any point in time, and the same data instantly transferred to the SQL replication node (in this case, 2 duplicate replication nodes),
Real-time Replication, Repository Restore, Local Snapshot DR
A failure at the production site would simply require a failover to the replication node acting as a standby server. If it is determined that a crash-consistent restore is needed, the AIMstor Repository can provide the needed Restore Point Objective for best consistency and granularity, down to the last minute if needed.
One Application, Triple Insurance
For immediate recovery to a standby server in seconds, simply use AIMstor to manage local snapshots on the Replicated standby server. The standby server remains in full synch with the primary server, but if system wide corruption occurs, the standby server can be brought up in seconds with its most recent local snapshot.
